What we evaluate — Skaters

Player ratings summarize a skater's impact in a single game without revealing proprietary weightings. We focus on measurable contributions and game context.

  • Offensive impact: goals, assists, shot volume
  • Puck pressure and involvement: attempts, shots on goal
  • Defensive contributions: blocks, takeaways (when available)
  • Special teams and key moments: impact on PP/PK and clutch plays
  • Usage and context: ice time and role within the game
What we evaluate — Goalies

Goalie ratings emphasize workload and shot-stopping while accounting for game difficulty.

  • Shot-stopping: saves, save percentage, goals against
  • Workload and pressure: shots against and sustained sequences
  • Shutouts and elite performances are rewarded
  • Balanced treatment of single-goal games and context
How to read the rating
  • Scale from 0 to 10: ~5 is typical, 8+ is excellent, 9+ is exceptional.
  • Ratings reflect a single game's impact with context; season leaders are averaged.
  • Reason tags explain highlights (e.g., shutout, high workload) without revealing formulas.

Note: We do not publish internal weightings. Criteria may evolve to better reflect on-ice performance.

Rating Color System

Each rating measures a player's impact during the game. Colors indicate performance level:

  • 2.5 Red (< 3.0) - Invisible or harmful to team
  • 4.0 Gray (3.0-4.9) - Just average, nothing special
  • 6.0 Green (5.0-6.9) - Good performance
  • 8.5 Blue (7.0-9.9) - Excellent performance
  • 10.0 Purple (10.0) - Clutch performance
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility: Skaters need ten rated games and at least 75% of their team's completed games. Goalies need six rated games and 25% participation.

These criteria ensure players have sufficient data and participation for meaningful season rankings.

Reason Tags & Icons

Player ratings include reason tags that highlight exceptional performances. These tags will be replaced by intuitive icons:

Goalie Tags
  • Blanchissage - Perfect game, no goals allowed
  • Efficace - High save percentage (≥93%)
  • Sollicité - Faced 35+ shots
  • Mitraillé - Faced heavy shot volume
  • BA+4 - Allowed 4+ goals
Skater Tags
  • Buteur - Scored 1+ goals
  • Passeur - Recorded 1+ assists
  • Tireur - High shot volume
  • Bloqueur - Blocked multiple shots
  • Robuste - Physical presence
  • Plus - Positive +/- (≥+2)
  • Moins - Negative +/- (≤-2)
  • Indiscipline - High penalty minutes
